Detailed Itinerary
Arrival City of Origin – CAIRO
Arrival and visa processing, transfer to the hotel, and accommodation.
CAIRO – TOUR OF THE GIZA PYRAMIDS – GEM AND SAQQARA WITH LUNCH – FLIGHT TO LUXOR – EMBARKATION
Breakfast. In the morning, scheduled visit to the Pyramids complex of Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure, and the Sphinx. This visit lasts approximately 3 hours. Afterwards, at lunchtime, we will stop to enjoy a typical menu that includes, among other things, delicious grilled chicken skewers with vegetables, hummus, tahini, and Arabic bread. For dessert, pastries and a refreshing fruit salad. With our energy restored, we will head towards the Saqqara necropolis, one of the most important links in Egypt's history, where, among other things, you will be able to see the Pyramid of Djoser, the very first pyramid built in Egypt. In Saqqara, we will also visit the tomb of the vizier Mehu, recently opened to the public for the first time since its discovery in 1940. This high-ranking official of the Sixth Dynasty was buried with honors in a spot that remained unnoticed by tomb robbers, which has kept the hieroglyphs decorating it in an exceptional state of preservation. Our final stop will be the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). At the scheduled time, transfer to the airport for the flight to Luxor. Upon arrival, transfer to the cruise ship, cold dinner in the room, and overnight stay.
Nile Cruise: Luxor / Esna / Edfu (Full Board)
Full board on board. Today we will cross the Nile to visit the Theban Necropolis. We will visit the famous Valley of the Kings, the burial place of the principal pharaohs of the New Kingdom from the 18th, 19th, and 20th Dynasties, and home to the famous tomb of King Tutankhamun (entrance ticket not included). We will also visit Deir el-Bahari, known as the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut. Finally, we will stop at the Colossi of Memnon, which depict Pharaoh Amenhotep III. The Greek historian Strabo reported that following an earthquake in 27 BC, the colossi were damaged. From that moment on, it was said that the statues "sang" every morning at sunrise. This phenomenon was apparently caused by the temperature change and the evaporation of moisture inside the cracks early in the morning, which produced this unique sound as it escaped through the fissures. However, after the restoration carried out by the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus in the 3rd century AD, the phenomenon disappeared. We will cross to the East Bank of the Nile to visit the Karnak Temple Complex, built by various pharaohs including Ramesses III, Taharqa, Seti II, and others. Among the grandeur of Karnak, the Hypostyle Hall of the Temple of Amun stands out with its 134 columns, 12 of which reach a height of 23 meters. At the end of this fascinating visit, we will head to Luxor Temple. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, it is another essential stop when traveling to Egypt. The Temple of Luxor was dedicated to the gods Amun and Amun-Ra, with Amenhotep III and Ramesses II being the pharaohs responsible for most of its construction. Return to the cruise ship. At the scheduled time, we will set sail toward Esna. After passing through the Esna Lock, we will continue sailing toward Edfu. Overnight on board. Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Nile Cruise: Esna / Edfu / Kom Ombo / Aswan (Full Board)
Full board on board. Upon arrival in Edfu, visit the Temple of Edfu dedicated to the god Horus, located in what was called Apollinopolis Magna during the Greco-Roman period. It is the second-largest temple in Egypt after Karnak and undoubtedly one of the best-preserved. Its construction dates back to the Hellenistic period, between 237 and 57 BC. At the end of the visit, we will continue sailing toward Kom Ombo. Upon arrival, visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the crocodile-headed god Sobek and the falcon-headed god Haroeris. The temple was built by Ptolemy VI Philometor (180–145 BC) during the early years of his reign. Later, other Ptolemaic kings, such as Ptolemy VIII and Ptolemy XII, contributed to its expansion. Nile Cruise: Aswan / Abu Simbel / Aswan (Full Board)
Full board on board. Sailing to Aswan. Upon arrival, early morning departure to the temples of Abu Simbel: along with the Pyramids of Giza, these are arguably the must-see temples on any trip to Egypt. They are located about 280 km south of Aswan, in what was known in pharaonic times as the region of Nubia. The construction of the Great Temple is attributed to Pharaoh Ramesses II in the year 1264 BC, alongside the smaller rock-cut temple built in honor of his favorite wife, Queen Nefertari. For centuries, the temples of Abu Simbel lay abandoned until they were discovered in 1813 by the Swiss explorer J. L. Burckhardt, with the Italian explorer Giovanni Belzoni becoming the first to enter their interior in 1817. With the construction of the Aswan High Dam in 1964, the temples of Ramesses II and Nefertari were dismantled piece by piece and reconstructed on higher ground 65 meters above their original location, housed under two immense reinforced concrete domes. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a lovely and relaxing ride on a felucca (a traditional Egyptian sailboat).
Domestic Flight: Aswan / Cairo (Full Board)
Breakfast and disembarkation. We will continue with a visit to the beautiful and iconic Temple of Philae (also spelled File). This is the name of an island located in the Nile River, eleven kilometers south of Aswan. During the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, the temple dedicated to the goddess Isis was constructed here. However, during the construction of the Aswan High Dam, Philae Island was submerged by the waters. Thanks to the sponsorship of UNESCO, the temples were dismantled, relocated, and reconstructed on the neighboring islet of Agilkia. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and interesting visits during our Nile cruise. At the end of this visit, transfer by our staff to Aswan Airport to take the return flight to Cairo. Upon arrival in Cairo, transfer to the hotel. In the evening, depart with our guide for a Night Tour heading into the city's historic center. During this 2-hour walking tour, we will explore some of Cairo's most spectacular landmarks, such as the historic Al-Mu'izz Street—famous for having the highest concentration of medieval architectural treasures in the Islamic world—and Khan el-Khalili, the largest market in Africa. Halfway through the tour, we will step into the historic El Fishawy Cafe (over 200 years old and known as the "Mirror Cafe") to enjoy tea and shisha (traditional water pipe). The tour concludes with dinner at a traditional restaurant where you can sample Egyptian cuisine. Dinner includes a variety of salads, meat, rice, vegetables, and desserts. After dinner, we will take you back to the hotel, arriving around midnight. Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Cairo: Full Day City Tour – (Half Board)
Breakfast and after picking you up from the hotel early in the morning we will enter the historic center of the largest metropolis in Africa. Our first stop will be the Citadel of Saladin, an enormous medieval fortress that has become the best known non-pharaonic monument in Cairo. Inside the fortress we will enter the Mosque of Mohamed Ali, known as the Alabaster Mosque because of the material that covers it. Its decoration is spectacular. Leaving the fortress behind we will head to the market of Jan el-Jalili (Khan El-Khalili), the most famous market in Cairo. Walking through its labyrinthine streets is like visiting an authentic open-air museum. Jan el-Jalili is perfect for buying souvenirs and reproductions of objects from Ancient Egypt. After the market we will stop to eat. The menu includes several salads and a main dish accompanied by rice and vegetables. For dessert, a refreshing fruit salad. We will tour the Coptic quarter, one of the most unique in the city. Here, we will visit Al-Muallaqa, better known as the Hanging Church, because it was built on top of the ruins of the Tower of Babylon. Very close, we will see the Ben Ezra Synagogue, located on the site where it is believed the baby Moses was found. In addition, we will go to the Church of Saint Sergius, known as the Cave Church, where the Holy Family was hidden during their flight to Egypt. The experience ends at your hotel.
